Meet The Teacher
As your child's second grade
teacher I would like to introduce myself to you. I live in Denver with my family. I have one daughter, whose name is Kelsey
and she is in 8th grade. I have two sons, Kyle is in 12th grade and Shane is in 9th grade. We are a very busy, caring, and
loving family. I attended the University of Upper Iowa for my teaching degree, and have Reading and Language Arts Endorsement.
This is my sixteenth year at Denver Elementary Schools. I substituted for seven years and this is my nineth year of teaching
second grade. Your children are very important and special to me. We will share and learn together this year.

About Birthdays:
We love to celebrate birthdays
in our classroom because a birthday is an exciting time for a second grader. You are welcome to send a birthday treat. If
your child has a summer birthday you may pick a day for your child's pretend birthday. Please try to let me know a week
in advance. We will share the treat at our milk and juice time. Please remember that we are a "No Nuts" facility.
Which means no peanuts or coconuts in the treats. If your child is having a birthday party which does not include all
of the students in the class, please send the invitations in the mail. We want to avoid hurt or unhappy feeling in the classroom.
About Show and Tell:
The children love to bring in items to share, which I also enjoy but we
need to set up an appropriate time. If your child would like to bring an item on Mondays to share with the class we will provide
time to do that at the end of the day. Please limit it to one item per week, so everyone has a chance to share with the class.
About Take Home Reading Program:
Reading is one of the most important skills learned, and it
is an area where your help is needed. Reading with your children everyday has proven to have a giant impact on the reading
progress. Our room is establishing a daily take home reading program, where your child or I will pick a book out to bring
home and read to you. Your child has a folder with their name on it to help protect the book as they travel back and forth
from school. You will find a card in the folder to make the day, title and your signature. When the card is filled (17 books)
they will receive a reward at school. Any book that is read to or by your child maybe added to this card. It may also be a
book you have at home ora book for the public library. Anyone may read to your child or listen to them read. An older brother,
sister, babysitter. If they read from a chapter book, one chapter can count as one book. It is very important to remember
to bring the book back to school the next day as we need this book to help another child read. If you help your child establish
the habit of putting the book in his/her bag as soon as they finish, it will soon become a routine procedure.
